San Diego’s music scene has long been a birthplace of talent, from the sun-soaked reggae of Slightly Stoopid to the legendary local venues like The Casbah and Winston’s. Countless artists have found their footing among these local stages, yet there is one organization that’s really been turning up the volume on San Diego Music.

If you haven’t heard about us yet, we are The Music Company (TMC). We are located in the heart of Pacific Beach and are built with one goal in mind: to make music accessible for everyone. We’re proud to be a nonprofit organization with a mission to remove economic, educational and social roadblocks that may prohibit many musicians from making their creative dreams a reality. For countless artists, TMC has been a sanctuary to record, connect and create, while also being a launching pad for new talent. It is truly a place to witness San Diego’s independent artist scene come to life.

But our work doesn’t stop there. We run programs like The Teen Performance Lab, which offers young artists a space to collaborate, experiment and perform live with professional mentorship. Our Educational Workshops bring in industry pros to teach everything from music production to artist branding, which helps musicians master the skills they need to succeed. We’re also proud to host a variety of community events, including open jam sessions where musicians of all skill levels are welcome to join in. And if you’re a female in the music industry be sure not to miss our monthly Women’s Night, a dedicated space for women to connect, network, and discuss shared experiences.

In order to keep this momentum going and continue supporting the creativity of new artists, we are hosting our first annual Music Matters Benefit Concert on March 15, 2025. This will be a night dedicated to local talent, passion and purpose, and we’d like you to be there! The event will take place at 7:00pm at The Barrel Room at AleSmith, with the goal of supporting and honoring the foundation of San Diego’s music culture: its independent musicians.

We’ve got an incredible lineup with performances by Sandollar, Kela Sako and Hannah Geller, and we’re stoked to have companies like The Belly Up, Vans and Roxy helping us make it happen. A silent auction will offer incredible prizes, including a brand-new Gibson Guitar and gift cards to some of San Diego’s tastiest restaurants. Early bird ticket prices start at $50 per ticket, and 100% of proceeds will go directly towards ensuring that aspiring musicians have the resources and opportunity to continue creating music.

The Music Matters Benefit is more than just a concert, it will be a night of joy, dedication and the power of connection through music. TMC is leading the charge to ensure that artists in San Diego have the space to explore their creative ideas, and support from the community is vital in keeping that vision alive. Whether you are a lifelong supporter of local music or simply looking for a way to give back to the community, this is your chance to be a part of an event that keeps music alive, accessible and thriving.

Come be a part of something bigger, and help us continue turning the volume up on San Diego music. See you there!
