This past Sunday, indie rock band Creature Canyon recorded an electric Beach Break Session at The Music Company. Originally from San Diego, Creature Canyon has carved out a unique space in indie and alternative rock, blending vintage influences with a modern psychedelic twist. The four-piece band—consisting of Austin Steele, Ryan Amyot, Aaron Lund, and Luc Fralic—has built a reputation for high-energy performances that have caught the attention of major outlets like Billboard and Paste.

Their journey began with standout EPs Life I Know and Did You Want That, gaining momentum when their track Brooklyn Baby landed a feature in the hit series Shameless. Their discography also includes an epic cover of Childish Gambino’s Redbone. Following the release of their full-length album Remarks, the band took their sound on the road for a nationwide tour, proving themselves as a compelling live act.

Their most recent single Even On My Worst Days was released early into 2025: “The inspiration for this single came from the idea that even when you’re at your lowest place you have someone who will lift you back up. It’s about being in a relationship and having that person there when you need them,” Lund explains.

The band has collaborated with top-tier industry professionals, including recording engineer Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young the Giant), mixing engineer Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastering engineer Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys).

Aaron Lund describes the band’s influences as a combination of several things: “Creature Canyon is a mixture of the music our parents listen to and the music we grew up listening to. There are classic rock elements but also 2000-2010 influences like The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys.”

Performing live in 2024

When this band plays live it’s an electrifying, all encompassing experience. Those who have been to their shows can attest to their brilliant and explosive sound, and they’re eager to capture that energy in high quality recordings and video. This is where TMC’s Beach Break Session comes in, because it provides the band with access to creating that content.

The Beach Break Sessions give bands the chance to record in a setting with the proper sound and light equipment required to produce a high quality product, and it’s free of charge. Beach Break sessions give the bands the chance to show people what their group sounds and looks like in a live environment.

All band members were stoked on the fact that they were going to get to record at TMC: “We know several bands that have recorded and rehearsed here and they’ve spoken to how well it sounds. Getting some really high quality recordings and visuals in a live setting is important to us because we need to show people what it’s like to be at our shows.” The band explained that TMC was the obvious choice for creating content like this, because no other place in San Diego does something like it so well, especially with the sole purpose of supporting bands and artists.

They played an electric session and we’re so excited to see where they go next. Stay tuned for their official Beach Break Session release!
