SoundLab: Music & Media Camp with Pacific Beach Arts Center

Class Experience
This a hands-on summer camp where teens learn the fundamentals of music and media production using real studio tools. Students work in small groups to create an original track and short video while gaining practical experience with how sound and media are produced.
Students will learn:
-How to record vocals and instruments using microphones and audio interfaces
-Beat-making and arranging music using digital tools (DAWs & MIDI)
-Basics of mixing, sound levels, and audio signal flow
-Intro to video shooting, framing, and editing
-How to complete and export a finished audio and video project
There are three weeks of this camp, each enrollment is for one week only: 6/15-6/19; 7/13-7/17, or 8/3-8/7.

Sample Class Format
- Core Project: Audio + Video Integration
- Each group of three students will complete one integrated project:
- Audio Component
- Create a 60–90 second original music track
- Use digital audio workstations, controllers, and audio interfaces
- Record at least one vocal or instrument
- Apply basics of signal flow, gain staging, and mixing
- Export a finished audio file
- Video Component
- Capture a 15–30 second video
- Learn framing, lighting, and audio-for-video considerations
- Edit video in structured workflows
- Export final video for sharing
- These components highlight how digital tools and systems work together in real media creation.
