Sandollar is an award-winning San Diego beach rock and Cali reggae band known for blending reggae, surf rock, funk, hip-hop, pop, and Southern California soul into a sound rooted in coastal culture, good energy, and live musicianship.
Formed in San Diego, Sandollar has built a loyal following through high-energy performances, genre-blending recordings, and a sound that reflects the beach, surf, skate, and live music culture of Southern California. The band describes its music as “beach rock,” a natural fusion of classic rock, funk, hip-hop, and Cali reggae shaped by friendship, rhythm, and the laid-back spirit of San Diego.
Led by frontman, songwriter, vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist Baron Lunbeck, Sandollar features a tight-knit lineup of musicians whose chemistry dates back to their early days making music together. That long-standing connection remains central to the band’s identity, giving their songs a sense of authenticity, movement, and shared history.
Sandollar’s music has reached audiences well beyond Southern California. The band’s song “Up Up,” originally released on their 2013 Pacific Records album Roller Coaster Ride, was prominently featured in the Netflix series Outer Banks, helping introduce Sandollar’s beach rock sound to a wider global audience. Music from the same era also appeared on CBS’s Magnum P.I., further establishing the band as a natural fit for film, television, and lifestyle-driven storytelling.
The group’s catalog includes multiple albums and singles that showcase its evolving sound, from early fan favorites to more recent releases that expand the band’s blend of reggae, rock, funk, pop, and hip-hop influences. Their 2013 album Roller Coaster Ride entered the iTunes Reggae Albums chart at #7, while their 2023 album Under the Water won Best World Music Album at the San Diego Music Awards. The album’s single “Warrior” was also nominated for Song of the Year, and Sandollar later received a San Diego Music Award nomination for Best World Music Artist.
Sandollar’s latest album, Sunny Day, recorded at Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters’ Studio 606, captures the band at its most dynamic and accessible. Produced by Brian A. Witkin and Donna M. Daly and mixed by award-winning engineer John Lousteau, the album brings together sun-soaked hooks, laid-back grooves, polished production, and the band’s signature beach rock foundation. The project includes the title track “Sunny Day” featuring KBong of Stick Figure, which debuted at #11 on the iTunes Reggae Singles Chart, as well as a reimagined version of “Up Up” featuring notable hip-hop artist Dizzy Wright.
Bright, uplifting, and rooted in the sound of Southern California, Sunny Day reflects both where Sandollar has been and where the band is headed next. With charting releases, award-winning albums, television placements, continued live performances, and a sound that connects with reggae fans, rock audiences, and crossover listeners alike, Sandollar continues to help define the soundtrack of San Diego’s beach lifestyle.
